Psalm 63:1

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you.
Psalm 63:1

From mighty waves that crash against ocean shores, to the delicate flutter of a butterfly’s wing, to the gentle heartbeat of a newborn, movement and rhythm are essential parts of our life experience. It’s no surprise, therefore, that God’s Word tells us to actively and intentionally search for Him! When Jesus talked about how to be His disciple, the first thing He said was for a person to give up his or her own way.

Instead of pursuing the path of selfish pride, Jesus calls us to pursue the path of people. He said the greatest act of love is for someone to deny themselves and lay down their life for a friend (John 15:13).

Next, Jesus told his friends to pick up their crosses (Luke 9:23). The beautiful thing about this whole exchange is that Jesus did exactly what He asks his children to do. He picked up a literal wooden cross to make a way for you and me to be with Him forever. Today, carrying the cross is trusting Jesus in the middle of life’s storms. It’s holding up His holy name when there isn’t anything left to hold on to. Your storms may make you feel mocked and spit on (just like the crowds did to Jesus), but the One who loves you is faithful. He will see you through because He promises nothing less.

Finally, Jesus said to the disciples to follow Him. There are definitely days that come and go in a jagged rhythm of stress and confusion, when it feels like the Lord is far away. But friend, you know the truth: you are dearly and completely loved by your Creator. You are celebrated and cheered for. Picture Him right there with you, reaching out His arms, waiting to take your hand so He can lead you down the path of righteousness, to a place where He will show you amazing things. Yes, the God of the universe values you and loves you that much!

Lord, please help me follow you forever. Give me the courage to keep moving and resist the enemy’s lies. Help me obey, even when it feels like you’re far away. Thank you for being my Faithful Savior!
