Finding out you are pregnant is often one of the most exciting days of a woman’s life, but when you are unmarried and alone, facing an unplanned pregnancy can create one of the worst days in a girl's life. The uncertainty, shame, and isolation alone can turn what should be an exciting day into a spiral of fear, anxiety and loneliness. Often women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy lack the support and encouragement they so desperately need. Fear and shame can lead women (including moms with kids already) to make abortion decisions they eventually regret, triggering more fear, shame, and trauma.
Data tells us 1 in 5 pregnancies ends in abortion – and 54% of women who obtain an abortion identify as Christian. We can’t look away from this reality. The church can and needs to be a part of the solution that saves lives both physically and eternally. The church should be the first place they turn to, not a place they run away from. This is where Embrace Grace comes in, to love and support these brave girls choosing life for their unborn child.
Embrace Grace was founded in 2012 and exists to help inspire and equip the church to love and encourage single and pregnant young women and their families. Women experiencing unexpected pregnancies receive practical, spiritual, and emotional support through the organization's global support groups. Embrace Grace provides an 11-week support group and Bible study that meets weekly. The groups are led and encouraged by women who have walked in their shoes. The girls make new friends and at the end of the semester are given a baby shower/princess day in their honor. Currently Embrace Grace is in all 50 states and 9 countries. Through our message of love, we are helping women see that they can have their baby and still experience God’s best for their life!
Being pro-life is biblical and leads us to actively express Christ’s love as the hands and feet of Jesus.
I had a desire to start and lead an Embrace Grace group because I have a heart for these women faced with an unplanned pregnancy. I, too, was in their shoes, 27 years ago. Although I was fortunate to have a great support system, all too often these women entering a crisis pregnancy center do not.
In the past 2 years of leading Embrace Grace I have seen lives changed and relationships restored. One story that stands out is of a sweet young mom from our first semester, Tye. Tye walked in week one scared, shy, and unsure of her future, and felt unprepared to be a mom. As the weeks progressed, she gained confidence and grew in her faith. By the the end of the semester she was a completely different person. She was confident and ready to embrace this new chapter. Fast forward—she is now married to the father of her child and confident and growing in her faith. To God be the glory!
