Luke 1:38

“I am the Lord's servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her.
Luke 1:38

You have probably heard, “The best ability is availability.” Even though this is a cliché, it holds some truth. God is not looking for perfect, flashy or rich. He is looking for a willing heart that will say “yes”to His plan.

In Luke 1:38, we see a young Mary saying “yes” to the plan that God had for her life. Her “yes” brought our Savior, Jesus Christ, into the world. Maybe your plans are to excel in your career, purchase a bigger home, travel the world or have another baby. There is nothing wrong with those plans—if they are God’s perfect plan for you. Sometimes good plans are not right plans. There are several things to keep in mind as we make ourselves available for God’s plan:

  • We must submit and be willing. Open your heart to God’s voice and listen for His direction. Mary listened to the angel and said “yes.”

  • Age is not an issue. History tells us that Mary was probably very young when the angel approached her about being the mother of baby Jesus. Moses was 80 when he began the journey of a lifetime. Caleb was about 40 when he spied out the land. Sarah was over 90 years old when she gave birth to her first son. And let’s not forget the little boy with the loaves and fishes that fed many people.

  • Don’t wait! The moment Mary said “yes,” the angel left and the plan began to unfold. Don’t wait to begin your journey with God. Let God’s plan begin to take shape in your life right now.

  • The happiest people are those who are in God’s perfect will and purpose right now.

FOR THOUGHT

Stop for a moment and consider that God has a plan for you today. Pray for a willing heart to say “yes” to His plan.

Can you put your plans aside to take up His plan? God is patiently waiting. Are you available?
