Luke 1:30–32

“Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”
Luke1:30-32

Mary knew all about waiting with God. From the beginning when the angel told her that she was going to have Jesus, Mary had to wait months with heaven only knew what kind of emotions swirling through her mind. She was going to give birth to the savior of the world! Her heart surely was at war with her mind. She no doubt had reservations, but deep down, she knew that she had been chosen to make much of God.

Then, after Jesus was born, Mary would have to wait years and years before she saw the fulfillment of God’s plan. She raised Jesus, watching him from a very young age begin his ministry. She wanted to love and protect her child, but waiting with God helped her let go. Waiting with God helped Mary say no to her own desires and yes to everything God had planned for her life.

Even at the end, at the foot of the cross, as she looked up and saw her son giving up his life for the sins of the world, Mary had to fight to wait with God. She was surrounded by unknowns, but she never wavered in her faith in the one true King who had called her to such a humble purpose. And then, after Jesus rose and conquered the grave, Mary would wait again, as Jesus ascended to heaven, for the day when she would see Him again in all his glory.

Lord, thank You for Mary’s story. Thank You for the ways she remained faithful despite all the unknowns. Help me wait with You like she did, keeping the eyes of my heart fixed firmly on Your love and mercy. Thank You for loving me.
