Genesis 15:1

“Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”
Genesis 15:1

Abraham wanted a child and God promised him an heir. Even though his wife was very old, because God said it would happen, Abraham believed. And even though Abraham had to wait twenty-five years for the promise to come to pass, Sarah did eventually give birth to Isaac.

Abraham’s faith was very strong because he trusted God’s plans for his life. He trusted in God to keep the promise that Abraham’s descendants would be more than the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year. Abraham’s waiting kept his hope in the One who gave the promise.

The crazy thing is that this is the same child God told Abraham to offer as a sacrifice. Even though he had waited so many years to finally see his son, now Abraham had to trust God in this very hard instruction. But Abraham willingly obeyed and trusted God by giving his son Isaac as a sacrifice, believing that God would be glorified. Abraham even told his servants that he and Isaac were going to worship the Lord! This act of obedience pointed forward to the day when God would sacrifice his own son to show just how much He loves us.

Lord, help me remember that everything I have comes from You. Please help me not to cling to anything here, because You are my treasure. Thank You for teaching me that You will always keep Your promises.

What is God giving you today as you wait with Him?
