1 Samuel 16:18

One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.”
1 Samuel 16:18

Today’s verse is a beautiful reminder that the Lord is with us in the waiting. David was still tending the flocks, not old enough to be out on the front lines fighting. Even though he was anointed to become king, the Lord still had many lessons to teach him.

For David, being asked to play the lyre for King Saul was an exercise in humility. The description of David says he was a brave warrior, well spoken, and a good looking man, but best of all the Lord was with him. God could have opened the door for David to become king right then and there, but it wasn’t time.

What is it that you are waiting with God for? The temptation is to become impatient and try to force things to happen before the Lord wants them to. Remember, God isn’t off doing other things and leaving you all alone without a plan. He has given you this day as a gift for you and Him to be together. Focus on God’s promise that He is with you just like he was with David!

Lord, thank You for reminding me to be humble while I wait with You. I pray that, as I look for ways to serve others, like David served Saul, I would be open to the lessons You’re trying to teach me.

What is God giving you today as you wait with Him?
